About

Few hordes were cradled in a darker hour than Mortem. When Marius Vold and Steinar Sverd Johnsen struck the first sparks in 1989, they were among the very first to stir in the Norwegian night — and the company gathered around them tells the whole tale: their Slow Death demo was produced by Euronymous, its cover drawn by Dead, its drums beaten by Hellhammer. The kindling of an entire scene crouched over one young, brutal recording. Then the fire scattered. Vold and Johnsen carried their embers into Arcturus and Thorns — names that would shape the saga for decades — and Mortem fell silent for thirty winters. It rose again in 2019 with Ravnsvart, the old brutality unbowed; and now, on Mørketid, the horde walks fully into the polar dark it is named for: eight tracks that heave from brooding, monumental mid-pace into hyperspeed frenzy, Vold's roar, Sverd's keys and Hellhammer's drums bound once more. The dark season always returns to the North. Mortem return with it. Raise a horn.
