About
Opeth made the leap from death metal to seventies prog look inevitable, with Mikael Åkerfeldt's cavernous growl and soft, Nick Drake-like croon sharing the same sprawling songs long before Heritage (2011) set the growl aside. Ghost Reveries (2005) struck the finest balance of both, Mellotron gloom and a dark occult narrative wrapped around some of their heaviest riffs.
