Trond "Trånn" Ciekals (1978–2025) was one of the defining figures of modern Norwegian black metal, best known as the founder, guitarist, songwriter, and creative mastermind behind Djevel. A steadfast guardian of the genre's traditional spirit, he forged a discography that honored the cold, atmospheric essence of the Norwegian second wave while establishing Djevel as one of the country's most respected contemporary black metal bands. Beyond Djevel, Ciekals also contributed to bands including Ljå, NettleCarrier, and Taake, leaving an enduring legacy of uncompromising musicianship, evocative songwriting, and deep devotion to black metal. His untimely passing in February 2025, at the age of 47, marked a profound loss for the global extreme metal community, but his influence continues to resonate through the music he created and the artists he inspired.
