Welcome to HeavyMusicGuide — a curated, ever-growing database of heavy rock and metal tracks, built by a Norwegian who has spent decades exploring the genre. The goal is simple: help you discover bands worth adding to your playlists on Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music or YouTube Music.

What you can do today

🔍 Search

Use the Search Panel on the front page to search for up to 5 bands simultaneously and see their full entry — song, album, year, genre, country and streaming links — all in one view. There is also a quick-search in the top navigation bar that finds bands and songs instantly as you type.

🎸 Browse by Genre

The site covers 20 metal genres — from Black Metal, Death Metal and Thrash Metal to Folk Metal, Viking/Pagan Metal, Stoner Rock, Symphonic Metal, Progressive Metal, Avant-Garde, Post-Metal, Sludge, Industrial, Gothic, Doom, Power, Deathcore, Metalcore, Technical Death Metal and Hard Rock. Click any genre card on the front page to jump straight to that section of the playlist.

🌎 Filter by Country

Every band entry includes a country of origin with a flag. Use the Filter by Country dropdown to narrow the playlist to bands from a specific country — whether you want to explore the Norwegian black metal scene, the Swedish death metal wave or heavy rock from anywhere in the world.

📅 Filter by Decade

Curious about what was happening in the 1980s or which bands emerged in the 2020s? The Filter by Decade lets you browse the playlist by era, from the earliest entries all the way to the present.

🏷️ Tags

Many entries carry descriptive tags — things like Norwegian Black, Classic Death, Melodic Death, Atmospheric Black, NWOBHM, Funeral Doom, Grunge and many more. Use the Filter by Tag dropdown to find all bands sharing a specific tag.

🔠 Alphabet filter

The A–Å alphabet bar (including the Norwegian letters Ø, Æ and Å) lets you jump directly to bands starting with a specific letter range — handy when you know roughly where a band falls alphabetically.

▶️ Stream directly

Every entry links to the track on Spotify, and many also have Tidal and Apple Music links. Click PLAY to open an embedded player right on the page, or follow the link to your preferred streaming service.

📋 Save a filtered playlist

When you filter by genre and/or country, a “Save this playlist” section appears at the bottom of the results. From there you can save the full filtered list directly to your Spotify account as a new playlist, or copy the track IDs for Tidal and Apple Music.

🆕 Latest Additions

The front page always shows the 10 most recently added tracks, so you can quickly see what is new. The Latest per Genre page (accessible from the navigation) shows the 5 most recent additions in every genre — sorted by popularity.

Coming soon

The navigation bar already shows two upcoming sections, currently greyed out:

  • Reviews — in-depth album and track reviews, written with the same passion that drives the playlist itself.
  • Releases — an overview of upcoming and recent releases across all the genres covered on the site, so you never miss a new record from a band you follow.

Interviews with artists will also be coming to the blog in the near future.
