Melodic Death Metal (often shortened to “melodeath”) combines the aggression and vocal style of death metal with melodic elements inspired by traditional heavy metal and the NWOBHM movement. The result is a more accessible yet still intense form of extreme metal.

Brief History
The genre emerged in the early 1990s, particularly in Gothenburg, Sweden. The so-called “Gothenburg sound” was defined by bands like At the Gates, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity. These bands blended thrash-influenced riffing with harmonized guitar melodies and more structured songwriting.
