Their saga
Trond Bråthen — Trondr Nefas on every stage and every sleeve — was the burning heart of Urgehal, the Norwegian horde he steered for two decades as voice, guitar and unbending will. While brighter names chased the light, he kept faith with the old, raw rite: filthy, cavernous and gloriously unrepentant black metal, made for the few who wanted it exactly so.
Across records like Goatcraft Torment and Ikonoklast he carved a sound with no interest in fashion and no apology for its murk, and he gave himself to other altars besides — Beastcraft, Vmthi and a dozen underground pacts — always the same craftsman, always the same devotion.
When he died suddenly in 2012, the underground lost one of its truest keepers of the flame. His comrades would not let the fire go out: they completed Urgehal's final record, Aeons in Sodom, as a chorus of guest voices raised in his honour, each singing his words so the horde might close its own saga on its own terms.
He never courted the saga, only served it. Raise a horn for Trondr Nefas.
